Proverbs 2
Chapter two starts, once again, with the cry of wisdom.
Vs. 1-4 tell us to receive, hide, incline the ear, apply the heart, cry after, lift up the voice, to seek and search for her. This isn't just a flippant half-hearted attempt. We put so much time and energy into things that are here today and gone tomorrow. If we put half that much into pursuing wisdom we'd reap the benefits for the rest of our lives! Benefits such as:
The knowledge of God
Preservation
Discretion
Deliverance from the evil man and the 'strange' woman (the 'strange' woman and the 'stranger' in vs16 are the women not part of your family or someone outside the nation of Israel).
The chapter ends with the promise "the upright shall dwell in the land and the perfect man shall remain in it" The most important thing the Israelites possessed was their land. If they obeyed God, they were able to keep it, if not, He took it away from them. Since this would not apply to me today, I wonder what God would take away from me for not living an upright life...?
Also is the promise "the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it".
I seek wisdom. But I'm afraid I don't put nearly as much effort into it as I should. Wisdom requires that I do what I should, and not what I want. Paul said "For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would."Gal. 5:17
God give me Your wisdom; give me the desire to pursue it with the zeal that You require, and give me the strength to act on the wisdom which You've given me.
