Women of Faith Wednesday

Ok, so I'm a bit late ;)

Women of Faith asks, what ten things do you wish you had known before you became a mother? Here are my ten things:

  1. Consistency is the key to happiness. Therefore I must learn it! Consistency in discipline, in attention, in laundry!
  2. That someone you love so much could be possible of causing so much heartache
  3. Sleepless nights didn't end with midnight feedings - there's also throwing up, fever, muscle cramps, bad dreams, thunder and just plain wanting to snuggle to keep you from a good night's rest.
  4. That just looking at my children would make me cry - how can you not, when you see your angels sleeping peacefully in their beds, and you're suddenly filled with so much emotion that you weep with the joy of it?
  5. The terror that you now feel when you see the world around you. The (possible) dangers that lurk (seemingly) in every corner, waiting to pounce upon your child.
  6. And yes, Courtney, that screaming child in the grocery store would be mine. I have learned not to judge other mothers for the way they live or treat their children. Because you just don't know until you've been there yourself. And you will be. Trust me, you will be.
  7. That my children would be so much fun! I've never laughed so much or so hard than at my children. We chase each other around the house, and I love to hear them screaming down the hallway when I'm hot on their heels. And I love that they think I'm fun and funny. (That'll probably change when they're teens!)
  8. That mealtimes would be such a frustration. Fix dinner, put it on the table, everyone eats. Sounds simple, doesn't it?? So the thirty-million dollar question is, do we eat pizza (again) or do I fix something healthy and then hear everyone complain about it? Oh, they'll eat it, but on some nights, it's just not worth the effort.
  9. Messes are a part of my life! Especially when you have one following you around unraveling everything you've just put up, put together, or cleaned! (And those are the ones you know about!)
  10. Boys are weird! Why oh why didn't someone warn me about this one?? Peeing in the floor vent?? Getting the training potty stuck on his head?? Eating dirt? Talk about meses!

But remember, 'this too, shall pass'. No matter what the frustrations, or messes, or situation, absolutely everything, without exception, is temporary. Except love.

  2. Your list made my smile, gave me chills, & brought tears to me eyes! I agree with them all. I just laugh when my 12 yr old says her kids will never behave like my 4yr old! Ha! Can't judge moms, we do the best we can, & like you said, "This too shall pass." Unfortunately, they grow so fast! =)
